AquaXtreme is owned and operated by a local Ecuadorian family. The idea behind AquaXtreme is for our family to share our love and knowledge of the rivers and jungle of Ecuador with others.
Santos Robles, founder of the company, began working on the rivers of Ecuador 35 years ago, piloting a motor canoe down the Aguarico River, carrying food and supplies, deep into the jungle where there are no roads, to the indigenous communities. His sons grew up on the rivers and soon became avid kayakers and raft guides. Tourism was just beginning to sprout up in Tena and activities like rafting were rare, but Santos took a chance and believed in his sons that their family had a future in operating adventure tours, and well…here we are!
Tovi Robles grew up in the jungle and could always be found in the river. His first attempts at kayaking came at an early age when he would follow the “gringos” to the river, promising he could paddle with the best of them, only to be rescued time and again until they taught him how to roll. Now he is a sought-after kayaking guide with 11 years of river knowledge under his belt. “Rafting and kayaking started out as my hobbies, but soon became my life! If I could spend my day ‘working’ on the river, why would I want to do anything else?” Tovi spent two summers working as a raft guide on the Ocoee River in Tennessee (on the section built for the 1996 Olympic Course) and has his first aid and CPR certifications as well as an Ecuadorian raft guide license.
Lindsey Robles grew up in North Carolina and studied abroad in Ecuador during college. On her first adventure to the jungle she decided that when she “grew up” she wanted to live and work in the jungle. She spent one year in Ecuador studying the Spanish language and Ecuadorian culture and traveling all over the country. During her time in Ecuador she met Tovi and they eventually married and have two children: Raymi and Javier.
Carina Robles is the organization behind the adventure. She can guide a raft as well as any of her brothers, but is busy with a newborn baby girl and her son Arnol, so for now she keeps the office running and does all the “behind-the-scenes” work that makes our trips a success.
Diego Robles is a skilled canyoning/rappelling guide and raft guide. Although professionally he is young, he has helped guide trips with his brothers for more than 5 years. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and is also certified in first aid and CPR. Diego loves adventure and can usually be found kayaking on the rivers near Tena. He is an excellent play boat kayaker.
We love Ecuador—we think it is one of the most beautiful and unique places in the world. We love it so much, we want everyone to come and experience the raw beauty of its snow-peaked volcanoes, raging rivers and lush rainforests and the warm hospitality and rich cultures of its local people.
