Tena Bicycle Tour
This tour offers an exciting 21 kilometer adventure on bikes. Ride through the jungle and along a raging river; see exotic plants and flowers, hieroglyphics, caves, and animals both in the wild and in captivity.
The ROUTE:
We leave Tena by bus (or taxi) for Monda Yacu (on the road to Quito). Here we take the bikes and head down a jungle trail to Cotundo into the “Valle Sagrado” (Sacred Valley), where we can see hieroglyphics etched into the rocks by the indigenous people. These hieroglyphics have a long history and there are many legends behind them.
The next stop is a zoo. Here we will see a great variety of animals native to this area such as monkeys, macaws, tigrillos and others.
The Jumandy Caves, named for the great Chief Jumandy, are next on the route. It is said that Jumandy took refuge in these caves during the Spanish conquest. We have the opportunity to walk through the caves, and take a splash in the pools and waterslide found there. We will pedal on to San Agustín, once more entering on a jungle trail in order to visit a waterfall and swim in a natural pool. From here we have the option of continuing on to Tena on the paved road or following the old trail through indigenous villages and crossing the Misahualli River on foot.
